WHAT IS A POLL WORKER?Poll Workers have paid, non-partisan, positions with the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections (DRE). Participating in the Election process is a very rewarding experience and a great way to give back to your community. You will be on the front line to ensure election integrity in Fulton County. There are a variety of positions available, such as a Clerk (who checks in the voters), Poll Technician (who assists with equipment), Assistant Manager and Poll Managers (who oversee operations at the poll). Poll Workers must be a minimum of sixteen years of age. They are required to be a resident or employee of Fulton County, or a resident of an adjacent county Finally, Poll Workers must not be a candidate for public office; hold public office, or be a close family member of a candidate or holder of public office. Fulton DRE handles Poll Workers for Advance Voting and Election Day differently: Advance Poll Workers are hired through a staffing agency. Compensation is commiserate with the position title and ranges from $17 to $23 per hour, plus over-time pay, if applicable. Poll hours are typically Mon-Fri, 7am - 7pm, Sat 9am - 5pm, and Sun 12pm - 5pm. Poll Workers usually arrive 30-60 minutes early and stay 30-60 minutes after the poll closes. Poll Workers must be able to work the entire three weeks, including weekends, plus the training period. Fulton DRE does offer limited part-time positions for Advance Voting, which entails working three to four days per week; however, their preference is for full-time workers. Election Day Poll Workers are hired directly by the Fulton DRE. Poll Workers are compensated a flat fee, ranging from $275 to $400, based on the position. In addition, workers are compensated for the training period and may receive a bonus. Poll hours on Election Day are typically 7am - 7pm. Poll Workers are required to work the entire day, from 5am - 9pm and must remain at the poll location throughout the day. |
HOW DO I APPLY?As with any other job application, you will be required to submit an application and a resume. We also encourage you to attend hiring events, if offered by the County. They are required to fill over a thousand positions in a very short amount of time, so be prepared to follow up on your application and stay on top of it. A recommendation from an existing Fulton County Poll Manager is very helpful. Typically, the hiring process is considerably ahead of the election cycle, so even if hiring is closed for the current election cycle, consider applying now for future elections. Complete the following form to indicate your interest in being a Poll Worker. Upon receipt of your submission, we will contact you to assist you with the rest of the application process. For Election Day positions, you will apply with the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections (DRE) directly. For Advance Voting positions, you will apply with Dover Staffing. You will need to search their job board for a poll worker position by using the filter for Georgia, as well as position titles. Please note, at certain times, you may also be able to apply with the Fulton DRE as well (check their website above). FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat should I do if I've worked a past election? Contact your previous Poll Manager to confirm that you are available and that they have you scheduled to work in this election. If you were a poll manager previously, please contact your Regional Coordinator. Otherwise, contact Fulton Elections at 404-612-7020. Once you have confirmed your work schedule, please notify us of your assigned location, position, and dates. Can I be a poll worker in Fulton County if I do not reside in Fulton? Current Georgia law requires Fulton poll workers to be residents of Fulton county or of a county adjacent to Fulton (Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglass, Fayette, Forsyth, and Gwinnett). Can I work half-day shifts or specify my available hours? No, Fulton County does not allow that at this time. For Advanced Voting, they do offer some Part-Time positions (which are defined as working 3-4 consecutive days), but they are still full-day shifts. What are other requirements to be a Poll Worker? You must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation. Applicants must not be a candidate for public office; hold public office, or be a close family member of a candidate or holder of public office. You must also be able to read, write, and speak English. Certain positions have other basic requirements, such as typing speed, or technical knowledge. I don't qualify or don't want to apply. How else can I help protect the integrity of our elections? Consider becoming a Poll Watcher, which is a voluntary position. Poll Watchers are appointed by the the political parties. Each party is allowed to have two Poll Watchers per polling location. The Fulton County Republican Party will provide you with training.
